April 2022 - Tina Schob has worked at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital since she was just 20 years old. Over the years, she has built a fulfilling career right in her community.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE CLOSE TO HOME
Tina’s career began at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital as a unit secretary in the emergency department (ED). Though Tina aspired to be a teacher, when the opportunity for nursing school arose, paid for by tuition reimbursement, she couldn’t pass it up. After graduating from Missouri Baptist University School of Nursing, she worked in the ED as a nurse and as needed at the BJC Medical Group Convenient Care at O'Fallon. After a few years, she accepted a role in the cath lab, but eventually returned to the ED.
Now, Tina is the manager of the cardiac service line, managing invasive cardiology, which includes the cath lab, thrombectomy and interventional radiology, and noninvasive cardiology, which includes stress tests, echocardiograms and cardiac rehab. She also oversees the respiratory service line and holds the emergency medical services (EMS) liaison role, a partnership focused on community involvement. In addition to her nursing education, BJC HealthCare has paid for her master’s degree and numerous certifications.
“I’ve never had any reason to leave — BJC HealthCare is a great organization to work for. There are just so many opportunities, whether it’s trying something new or furthering my education. It’s not only easily available; it’s encouraged,” says Tina, “And personally, I’ve been really fulfilled by the educational piece of nursing.”
The convenience of being close to home and the flexibility of nursing — working days, nights or weekends — were also particularly helpful for Tina when she was raising her family.

During her tenure, Tina has witnessed many changes. Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital has grown exponentially, and Progress West Hospital became part of BJC HealthCare. “When I first started, we had just one main hall with an intensive care unit (ICU) at the end,” she shares. “I think about the services we provide now — STEMI, thrombectomy — you can stay in St. Charles County for the very best of the best.”
A St. Charles County native, Tina is proud to serve her community. She has stories of helping neighbors, friends of friends and even family. “That’s what keeps me in the community,” says Tina. And while the past few years have certainly been challenging for nurses, she’s motivated by the difference she is making. “It’s in my nature to help,” she says. “And to be able to support and connect with those in my community — patients, families, staff — it fills my bucket.”
Reflecting on her career thus far, Tina shares, “I truly love my job, and I love working for BJC. I’ve always been very happy and content, and it has been such a blessing to be close to home.” She encourages others seeking a fulfilling career serving their community to consider nursing, particularly within BJC HealthCare. “There are tons of reasons to be a nurse. It’s a great opportunity and definitely needed.”
